Archbishop Douglas Hambidge1927 - 2026 We learned last week that Archbishop Douglas died, just 4 days before his 99th birthday. In 1980, he was elected Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster. In 1981, he became Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon and served in the two roles until he retired in 1993. We were very lucky to have Douglas and Denise as members of St. Anne's before they relocated to Calgary to be close to their sons. Some time ago, Cliff Caprani made a video of Archbishop Douglas, and he has asked me to share it with you. You can watch it here Archbishop John has written the following letter to the people of our Diocese, which you can read here

From the Stewardship TeamStewardship and Time written by Sara Miller As the clocks move forward and daylight extends a little longer into the evening, we are reminded that time itself is a gift. The permanent shift to daylight saving time offers a gentle invitation to reflect on the stewardship pillar of time, the phases of time, how we receive it, how we use it, and where we choose to place our attention and energy. At Anglican 101 recently, Marnie explained how the church helps us to reflect on time through the rhythms of the liturgical calendar. Seasons such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost also mirror the rhythms of our own lives - times of waiting, celebration, reflection, renewal, and growth. These times reinforce that time is not simply a resource to be spent or managed. Time is something precious, to be lived consciously and prayerfully through these sacred seasons. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” By reflecting on the various seasons of life, I feel so grateful that God has been faithful through every phase and situation of my life. While I have nowhere near the capacity or energy I had in my youth and midlife, stewardship teaches that every stage of life and health, holds opportunities to serve God. For me, service is now offered in small things, preparing a short stewardship reflection, giving a listening ear, a word of encouragement, offering a prayer, or welcoming someone new. Small acts of service, done with love. By spending time in Bible study group and the St Anne’s walking group I have learned, laughed and seen fellowship and friendships blossom. I believe that whatever time we have and can offer in service, fellowship, prayer, and care for others, enables us to participate in God’s work in ways that ripple far beyond what we might see. As the evenings grow lighter and the days lengthen, how might we consider and use the time entrusted to us today? |

St. Anne's has started a walking group.
We meet on Monday morning -- weather permitting. We gather at 11:00 am in Steveston & spend the next hour or so rambling, at a gentle pace, along the dykes. After that, we find a cafe where we sit & socialize.
