Ways to get involved

Summer always has a different pace. Even if you don't choose to travel, July and August are slow months, ministries pause, and Sunday attendance usually declines. The second Sunday in September is sometimes called 'Welcome back Sunday', The assumption, or maybe hope is that people will begin to find their way back to church as the rest of their lives return to their normal pace.

I love the summer: the long days and the time in my garden, but I always miss the sounds of activity in our church building.

This year Jonathan ran 3 weeks of summer camps for young musicians which was so lovely.

I think that church buildings should be gathering spaces, places for worship, and community. So I'm looking forward to having the preschool, the after-school care, the youth orchestra, and others back in September.

I'm looking forward to Godly play, and Faith and Families, the Choir, and Bible study all beginning again. And I'm excited to see what else we get up to in the months ahead.

Season of Creation will offer us several opportunities to come together including a Labyrinth walk at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, and a shoreline cleanup along the dyke from Francis to Blundell, among other things.

We have ministries that are looking for new members including Zoom greeters, AV, Altar Guild, and Intercessors. So if you are looking for ways to get more involved, you might consider one of those groups.

Maybe you have a friend who has been looking for community or is wondering about church, you might consider inviting them along to one of our services or activities.

As much as I enjoy summer, I also really love all of the things that we do together, and I'm looking forward to getting started again.

I hope you are too.

With gratitude for our ministry together,

Marnie

Welcome Daniel Melvill Jones

Welcome Daniel Melvill Jones

VST Student

Daniel will join us from September through December as our student intern.

He will join us for worship and at least one other day each week.

I know that you will join me in making him feel very welcome at St. Anne's.

Daniel Melvill Jones is looking forward to his three month placement at St. Anne’s Steveston. He comes to us from St. Helen’s (Point Grey), where he completed an internship with Mark Munn, and is currently completing his MDiv at Vancouver School of Theology. He loves to read, think, and write about a wide range of topics, and has published or presented papers on matters ranging from J. S. Bach to Flannery O’Connor. He lives on the edge of Pacific Spirit Park in a bookshelf-crammed apartment with his wife, Annie (a grade-two teacher), and their black cat, Babette. When he is not reading or watching films, he can be found perfecting another bread baking technique or wandering the coastline near his home. Daniel is passionate about bringing people together to encounter God in this place and time.
