St. Anne's Steveston Anglican Church
Mid-week check-in for November 15, 2023
From the rector's desk

From the rector's desk

Our Gospel reading this morning was Luke 17: 11-19. It's the story about the ten lepers who are healed by Jesus and the one who returns to thank him.

I talked about the fact that I want to have grace for the 9 who didn't come back.

As I was driving into church today, I kept thinking about the fact that we have no idea what any of them faced after they were healed. What if they no longer had leprosy but still couldn't find a job? What if they were still lonely? What if life wasn't what they had expected once they were healed and they didn't actually feel all that thankful?

I think that many of us are healing from something. It begins with achnowledging that we need or want to get better and then beginning that process and sometimes our healing works the way we hope it will and sometimes it doesn't.

This story just reminds me that we don't always know what happens for people and that not everyone feels grateful for healing when it happens. And I just want to have grace and space for that.

The world feels really hard right now. It feels like so many places and people are in need to healing and it seems to me that as people of faith, we should pray for them with no expectation of what the outcome will be.

With gratitude for our ministry together,

Marnie
