All Saints and All Souls

On Sunday, October 29th, we will be celebrating the Feast of All Saints and All Souls.

For the purposes of our liturgy, we will hold these two celebrations together, though they are separate days in our litugical calendar. The Feast of All Souls is November 2 and we actually have two feasts of All Saints, one for the reformation on October 31 and then on November 4, we celebrate the Saints of the Old Testament. You can read about all of this and all of the special commemoration days in our liturgy in For all the Saints, the resource offered by our church.

But what is important about All Saints and All Souls, is that it gives us the opportunity to remember and celebrate all those people who have come before us and who have helped shape our church, our faith and our lives.

Not everyone that we remember is an actual Saint. in fact some of the people that we will remember on the 29th will only be known to you, but they are no less important than those who are venerated in our church calendar. Each of the people that we name in our liturgy that day have shown you or us, something about what God is like, They are beloved and loved, and it is important to remember them.

So, for the next couple of weeks we will have a list located on the table under the flower calendar in our nathex, where you are invited to name anyone who has died, who you would like us to name and remember in our liturgy on the 29th. Please write thier first and last name only and they will be read in alphabetical order during our prayers on the 29th.

With gratitude for our ministry together,

Marnie

PWRDF

An update from Penny Nakamoto

In the weeks ahead, many of us will be planning for our Christmas celebrations. As you
consider gifts for family and friends, we hope you will keep PWRDF in mind.

Donations can be given to PWRDF to honour the memory of someone or in someone’s name in lieu of a gift. You can find that information here

This year your donation to the World of Gifts will be matched, up to a total of $110,000, thanks to the generosity of an
anonymous donor. If you would then like to send an e-card to the person in whose name you
made the donation, you can also do this online. We are fortunate here in Canada in so many
ways. Your gift to those in need at such a critical time will go a long way to relieve suffering and
give hope.

If you would like to order Christmas cards from PWRDF, please click here.
These cards come in packs of twelve and support the work of PWRDF.
